RWANDA KARANZA GATARE HONEY

RWANDA KAYANZA GATARE HONEY
from $28.00

Roast Level 3/10

Cupping Notes:

Gatare reveals a more expansive and textural expression of Rwanda — a coffee whose honey process lends both richness and radiance without obscuring the remarkable clarity for which the region is revered.

The fragrance opens with notes of white honey, raw sugar, and warm vanilla caramel, accented by delicate florals and hints of spiced pastry. As the cup unfolds, layers of candied citrus, golden raisin, black tea, and honeyed stone fruit emerge with striking precision and balance. The sweetness feels luminous and natural, woven seamlessly into the structure of the coffee rather than resting atop it.

What distinguishes this selection most is its harmony between depth and lift. The mouthfeel is supple and coating, yet the cup retains vibrant transparency and a poised citrus acidity reminiscent of lemon tea and orange peel. Subtle traces of chai spice and tea tannin carry through the finish, lending both energy and refinement to the lingering aftertaste.

There is an effortless elegance here — expressive without excess, vibrant without sharpness. Gatare captures the beauty of honey-processed Rwanda in its most composed form: layered sweetness, crystalline clarity, and a finish that resonates long after the cup is empty.

FARM NOTES:

Perched high in Rwanda’s Western Province, the Gatare washing station has long stood among the country’s most revered coffee sites. Founded in 2003 and situated near 1,800 meters above sea level, Gatare was among the earliest Rwandan mills recognized for producing exceptional specialty coffees for export, earning repeated distinction in the Cup of Excellence competition through its precision, elevation, and extraordinary surrounding terroir.

This honey-processed selection offers a particularly graceful expression of the region. By allowing a delicate layer of fruit to remain during drying, the process imparts greater texture and sweetness while preserving the crystalline clarity and vibrant structure that define the finest Rwandan coffees.

The cup is layered and luminous. Aromas of wildflower honey, vanilla sugar, and warm pastry rise effortlessly from the brew, unfolding into notes of candied citrus, golden raisin, black tea, and soft baking spice. A supple, almost silken mouthfeel carries the flavors with elegance, while restrained citrus acidity lends energy and refinement rather than sharpness.
