This exceptional coffee shines when brewed as a pour-over, delivering a profoundly sweet cup that evolves from initial simplicity to reveal delightful fruited nuances as it cools. The aroma exudes potent sweetness reminiscent of cooked sugars, honey, and subtle notes of fruit pastry filling. In the cup, the complexity of sweetness unfolds, evoking nuances of rustic palm sugar, molasses, and a hint of woodsy undertones. As the coffee breathes, it unveils fruit notes reminiscent of berry tea and dried dates, with a lingering suggestion of bitter fruit skins in the aftertaste. The acidity, reminiscent of tartaric and grape-like tones, complements the finish, which hints at aromatic spices and a subtle leather undertone.

Farm Notes:

Nestled in the Eastern Highlands of Papua New Guinea, Domaine Baroida traces its illustrious beginnings to the visionary Ben Colbran, who acquired the land in the 1960s from a native named Taro. Among the pioneering settlers of these fertile valleys, Ben was instrumental in establishing agriculture in the region. In response to government encouragement in 1965, he diversified into coffee cultivation, marking the genesis of one of the region's premier coffee estates. Today, Domaine Baroida is proudly stewarded by the third generation of the Colbran Family, with Ben's son Nichol and grandson Chris leading the way.

Perched majestically at 1700 meters above sea level, Domaine Baroida commands a strategic position at the apex of the Lamari River valley and Mount Jabarra range. Encompassing thousands of meticulously tended hectares, formerly managed by colonial coffee estates and now under native landowners, the estate is ensconced by towering mountains that rise up to 2300 meters. These mountainsides are cultivated by dedicated smallholder coffee producers.

This lot, sourced from the highest reaches of the estate, features the Arusha coffee variety—a cultivar believed to trace its lineage to the esteemed Bourbon strains, particularly the SL types cultivated in Kenya. Renowned for its vibrant acidity and fruity sweetness, this lot embodies the pinnacle of Domaine Baroida's dedication to quality and heritage.
