PANAMA BOQUETE DOMAINE LA GLORIA
Tasting Notes:
It is a pleasure to welcome Panamanian coffee back to the collection through Domaine La Gloria, an historic estate whose coffees are distinguished by balance, composure, and classical restraint.
The aromatic profile opens with a savory-sweet elegance, recalling praline nuts and a gentle dusting of cinnamon spice. As the cup unfolds, notes of honey, almond butter, and fragrant maple sugar emerge, forming a layered sweetness that is both warm and precise. At the core lies a refined caramel tone, accented by macadamia nut, barley tea, and the soft creaminess of sweetened almond milk.
The texture is notably silken and milky, lending weight and continuity to the cup while amplifying its nut-driven character. Rather than overt brightness, the acidity expresses itself with quiet restraint—tea-like and lightly tannic—providing structure and definition without sharpness. This measured acidity supports the coffee’s harmony, allowing sweetness and depth to remain the focus.
With further development in the cup, the profile settles into a classically proportioned balance, evocative of the finest Central American expressions. Sweetness deepens and broadens, gently offset by underlying tones of cacao and almond, which add gravity and persistence through the finish. The result is a composed, enduring cup—neither showy nor austere—marked instead by clarity, elegance, and quiet confidence.
Estate Notes: Barú Indian High
La Gloria Estate is one of the historic “Barú Indian High” properties situated in Boquete’s Horqueta subregion, an area revered for its altitude, volcanic soils, and ideal climatic balance. The surrounding estates reach elevations approaching 2000 meters, benefiting from cool average temperatures, generous yet measured rainfall, and soils shaped by volcanic activity—conditions that favor slow maturation and nuanced expression.
Natural spring water flows through and across the estate, serving both La Gloria and neighboring farms, reinforcing the estate’s role within the broader agricultural landscape. Processing is conducted with a focus on cleanliness and precision, with coffees carefully washed and dried primarily on patios in the warmer climate of nearby Dolega, with measured mechanical finishing during peak harvest periods to ensure consistency.
Great care is taken in the preparation of the coffee, resulting in exceptional uniformity and clarity—qualities that translate directly into the cup. La Gloria’s coffees are not defined by extremes, but by poise: an estate that values balance over excess, and expression over intensity.
As with the world’s most respected wine estates, Domaine La Gloria offers a coffee shaped by place, history, and restraint—an enduring expression of Boquete at its most classical.
